Why content marketing wins over traditional marketing?

.

An announcement comes up on the radio while driving about the release of a new movie.  The movie seems like the ideal pass time for the weekend coming up! But the announcer or the radio ad about only touches upon the important cast before breaking into a song from the movie.

For someone who hates drama and would happily binge watch a thriller series on OTT; this information is incomprehensive.

But if I log on to any of the social media sites, review sites or quickly Google the movie; I will not only get the gist of movie, what people think about it but I can very well learn where the director found the inspiration for the movie, if the plot was inspired from a book or another Hollywood film and if it is causing some political and social upheaval (which nowadays, most films do).

This added information or in other words, ‘getting all your facts’ is content marketing.

Gone are the days where only flashy scenes and models drew the attention of the people to a holiday destination or a daily-use  product. Today’s consumer is smart and will spend time on detailed research before buying a product or an experience.

Content writing is effective because:

  1. It is flexible – you carry the information you want everywhere you want.  Reading can happen anywhere and can be much more rewarding when compared to an flashy audio-visual.
  2. Content marketing can be interactive – Social media sites run on content and the content is provided by the users. These sites and other forums enable the user to connect with other people in their field for indept knowledge. Connecting with people on an one- on- one basis can help clear any questions. LinkedIn Is a fine example, where one can connect with people of their field for useful outcomes.
  3. Content marketing is not limited – Today, the media has found inroads to every sphere and all our senses. Just like the reach of the internet is unlimited, content too is not just the written word. Content has diversified into films, radio, podcasts, webpages, celebrity interactions, ask the celebrities etc.

These marketing tools meet us as we are going about our day or when we are looking for specific information.

Hence they are selling while providing information and catering to our specific requirements.

To sum it up, content marketing has proven to be much more effective as it generates 3 times more than traditional marketing at a much lesser cost.
