Hello !

This issue of XpreZ Business Companion discusses web 3.0 in detail. Right from the trends and technologies to how they impact today’s business scenario, we provide you a bouquet of actionable points and applicable information here.

Buzzwords apart, several business owners are still asking what is web 3.0 and what kind of application we categorise as web 3.0. An article by XpreZ Business Companion’s inhouse writer M. Manaswini gives a bit of a backstory on how World Wide Web evolved and has now transformed into this incredibly immersive and intuitive space.

Web 1.0, the first version of the World Wide Web, was noted for its “clumsy appearance and lengthy text,” but still the early internet users were “thrilled to read information from anywhere in the world,” Manaswini says, offering a pit of a view of how businesses had used the web at various stages of its growth and what lay in store.

Putting her focus on the pieces that make up web 3.0, Nancy, another of our writers, notes that the third-generation web lays “emphasis on decentralized application and make extensive use of blockchain based technologies.”

“Web 3.0 will also make use of machine learning and Artificial Intelligence to adaptive applications. Another aspect that is part of the emerging definition of web 3.0 is the notion of a Semantic web,” Nancy writes, talking about the four important pillars of web 3.0, namely blockchain, Non-Fungible Token (NFT), Articifical Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML).

Talking about how web 3.0 will impact businesses, our writer Darshan N R points to several important advantages the emerging technology will offer. “Web 3.0 and other technologies such as DLT,5G,3D graphics and more will transform businesses,” he says, further adding: “From delivering intuitive interaction with highly contextual and personalized information to offer more control over data through decentralized and permissionless network protocols, web3.0 will change the way businesses utilise technologies.”

To understand more about how businesses should prepare for web 3.0, XpreZ Business Companion turned to the CTO of GoGLOBAL, Singapore, Tony Tan.

“Web 3.0 can enable authentication in different kinds of apps like wallets. That way, it’s a lot easier (to work with),” Tony told us on a call from Singapore.

“But there’s still a huge learning curve because people need to figure out how to create different applications –for example metaverse, wallet etc.”

In the interview, Tony advice startups to “ask” themselves “what kind of problems” they solve before going ahead to adopt web 3.0.

“This’s totally open source and integrates better. If you want to do NFT, it’s pretty direct. But there’re still challenges with things like creation of the crypto currency as you really need to know the right type of coder.”

Among the books recommended by our writers on web 3.0 are “The Spatial Web” by Gabriel René, “Web 3: What is Web 3? Potential of Web 3.0” by Patrick Ejeke and “Web 3.0 Startups” by R. L. Adams.
